Dr Kundan Aryal, Head of the Central Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, stated that Nepali intellectuals, as citizens of a developing nation, have a strong desire for a balanced flow of information, free from stereotypes and the imposition of a distorted news-selection frame of reference.

Speaking at a panel discussion titled “ideas exchange” during the second Xizang International Communication Conference in Lhasa, China, he remarked, “Let our stories, grounded in reality and experiences, and in the quest of mutual benefit and harmony among the people of different parts of the world, prevail.”

Sharing the panel with Prof Sonam wangmo, Xizang University and Prof Zhaou de Cang, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, he further remarked that the people who wish to see international communication with justice, should collectively reshape the narrative created by ignoring realities. The exchange of ideas among us would help to shape our shared future, grounded in international communication free from stereotypes and distorted images created by a section of the world media.

The session was moderate by Yin Weibin of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing. Media scholars and practitioners from the USA, Russia, Australia, Germany, South Africa, Sri Lanka, India as well as different provinces of China are taking part in the conference.
