On January 17, 2025, the Central Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (CDJMC) at Tribhuvan University, supported by UNESCO, held a policy dialogue titled Public Service Broadcasting in Nepal: A Policy Dialogue in Kathmandu. The discussion followed the recent passage of Nepal’s Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) Bill, which merges state-owned Radio Nepal and Nepal Television.

The event featured key presentations from media expert Tara Nath Dahal, senior journalist Raghu Mainali, and TU Assistant Professor Ghama Raj Luitel. Discussions focused on PSB challenges such as editorial freedom, financial independence, sustainability, and opportunities to promote inclusivity, diversity, and combat misinformation.

Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, acknowledged the need for reforms to ensure PSB's independence and alignment with democratic values. UNESCO’s Nirjana Sharma emphasized PSB's potential to amplify marginalized voices and pledged collaboration to address its challenges.

The event highlighted the importance of integrating findings into academic curricula and underscored the collective efforts needed to establish an effective PSB system in Nepal.
